Overnight Baked French Toast

A perfectly easy and delicious treat to serve for a Sunday Brunch!


The ingredients you need:
1 large loaf Challah bread 
5 eggs 
1 1/2 cups half and half 
2 tsp vanilla 
1/4 tsp salt 
1/4 cup orange juice 
1 stick unsalted butter 
1 cup packed brown sugar, preferably organic 
Cinnamon/Sugar topping: 
1/3 cup turbinado sugar 
1 tsp cinnamon

The tools you need:
measuring cups 
measuring spoons 
13x9x2 inch baking dish 
sharp knife 
large mixing bowl 
medium saucepan 
whisk

1.

Melt butter and brown sugar in saucepan over moderate heat and stir until smooth.

Pour smooth mixture into bottom of baking dish and set aside.

Cut Challah into 1-inch thick slices.

4.

Place bread slices close together on top of butter and brown sugar mixture. (Don't be afraid to really squeeze the pieces of bread to fit!)

5.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, half and half, vanilla, salt and orange juice.

6.

Pour egg mixture on top of bread.

7.

In a small bowl, combine turbinado sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle evenly over entire surface of pan.

8.

Cover pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. (If you want to bake this right away, just skip this part and move on to preheating your oven.)

Bake 35-40 minutes at 375 degrees until bread is pale golden and serve hot!
