The ingredients you need: 1 stick cold unsalted butter 1 1/8 cups flour (I like to use whole wheat!) 1 tsp sugar (omit the sugar if you are making a savory pie) 1/2 tsp salt 3 T ice water |
The tools you need: food processor (or pastry blender) measuring cups measuring spoons small bowl plastic wrap butter knife |
|
 | 1. | In a food processor, pulse the flour, sugar and salt a few times (This is a kid-friendly step as long as no kids are handling the blade!) | | 2. | With a butter knife, cut the butter into small pieces, about 1/2 inch each | | 3. | Add the butter to the processor and pulse until the mixture becomes crumbly | | 4. | Slowly add in 3 T ice water and pulse until mixture comes together to form a ball | | 5. | Sprinkle in a little more water if dough doesn't come together with just 3 T water | | 6. | Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate at least 15 minutes before using, or freeze for up to 3 months. | | | | | | |
